European
project Sliding Doors
(EACEA-52-2019-1
/ 625532)
The
aim of this project is to analyze the integration processes of
migrants from a broad socio-historical perspective. The project is
therefore about understanding these issues by combining academic work
and civil society and by involving the inhabitants of nine European
countries in order to provide, at the end of the project,
recommendations to the different European institutions.
The
project will be divided into seven
stages:
-
training
: through webinars and a summer university held in Besançon (august
2021), training sessions on the history of migrations from Antiquity
up to today, migration routes, forced labour and slavery towards and
inside Europe ;
Once
the technical-scientific committee has been set up, the website and
the associated social tools created, the first activity will concern
the training of partners who will then coordinate the territorial
surveys. It will be preceded by the collection of a questionnaire in
all partner states, from "native" citizens and citizens of
third countries, in order to find out the main opinions and
prejudices on the subject of immigrant integration.
Transnational
training sessions of 50 hours through the web, with the realization
in local sub-groups of in-depth analyses and exercises on the history
and law of migration in and towards Europe between the 19th and 21st
centuries. It will examine whether and how situations of intolerance
and conflict have evolved positively, in terms of the real
integration of migrants in the new countries and their contribution
to the resolution of local socio-economic crises.

field
surveys:
interviews with immigrants and visitors from sites and museums
dedicated to migrations in order to identify best practices ;
Participants
to the training phase, supported by experts and actors in the sector,
through non-profit partner associations, will interrogate citizens -
first of all immigrants, but also visitors to migration sites and
museums - on the evolution of the themes and events studied, as well
as on the results of the preliminary questionnaire on the most
widespread prejudices, in order to detect possible solutions.
Quantitative
and qualitative report on the characteristics, evolution and
perspectives of stigmatization and discrimination against immigrants
in Europe, laying the basis for: creating products (technologically
innovative but easy and widespread) that tackle them and act on a
daily basis; developing regulatory recommendations and good economic
practices that discourage them; activating concrete
services/facilities.

analysis
of resultsby
the network of partners.Debate and presentations of results during
workshops gathering the results of the project and the
recommendations;
The
experts who designed and promoted the project, coming from
universities, researchcenters/archives, non-profit civil society
organizations, municipalities, will analyze, through webinars but
also during the summer university in Besançon, the results of the
territorial surveys and the resulting report, in order to deepen the
feasibility and sustainability of the most shared and significant
proposals received from the citizens involved and expressed by a
large majority of the discriminated groups.
The
experts coordinating the survey and its analysis will submit to the
technical-scientific committee a first draft proposal of good
practice recommendations for EU decision-makers, elaborated both in
terms of regulatory innovations that discourage and condemn any form
of stigmatization of immigrants and new services - information and
guidance, but also social assistance and economic support - to foster
their genuine integration.

4)Debate
The
results of the surveys will be presented and discussed in the
territory, among and by the citizens: through real workshops
(preceded by press conferences at the Local Authority of reference
and with the decisive contribution of the European Solidarity Corps)
to translate the indications into concrete - practical - shared,
widely disseminated results.

The
direct involvement of migrants and poorly
active/under-represented/marginalized citizens, favoring a feminist
and anti-racist perspective, leads to results that deepen and
disseminate the issues addressed for a new broad press campaign
throughout the EU; raising awareness and social commitment of the
population at large towards the duty to overcome stigmatization,
which is a source of discrimination, violence and also used as a
matter of convenience in times of crisis.
Exhibition:

practices of integration implemented.
Video-clips:
by migrant women and volunteers
